Buying without flying: the UK power of attorney route
You do not need to travel to Pakistan to buy DHA property. You appoint someone you trust in Pakistan — usually a parent or sibling — through a Special Power of Attorney (SPA) executed at the Pakistan High Commission in London or at a consulate in Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester, or Glasgow. Book the appointment, sign before the consular officer with your NICOP, and courier the document to Pakistan, where it is attested before DHA will accept it.
Keep the SPA specific: the exact property or purchase, and the exact acts your attorney may perform. Your attorney then handles verification, the bayana, and transfer day at the DHA office on your behalf, while you approve each step on WhatsApp.
Sending money from the UK the right way
Send your purchase funds through banking channels — a transfer from your UK bank into Pakistan, or through a Roshan Digital Account (RDA), which Pakistani banks offer specifically for overseas Pakistanis and which can be opened from the UK entirely online. A documented trail in your own name matters three times over: it satisfies the bank, it protects you with Pakistan's tax authorities, and it is your proof of investment when you eventually sell.
- Never hand cash to a traveller or route money through a third party's account — it saves pennies on the exchange rate and risks the entire purchase.
- Pay the seller directly, as a banker's draft or pay order in their name, released at the transfer office.
- Keep every remittance receipt with your property file in the UK; your future buyer's lawyer will ask for them.
What UK buyers typically choose
Families planning an eventual return favour possession plots in developed phases of DHA Lahore — Phases 5 through 8 — where they can build when ready. Investors who want liquidity without construction lean on allocation files in Phase 9 Prism, Phase 10, and Phase 13, which trade actively against a published daily rate. Budgets in the £15,000–£50,000 range generally map to files and smaller plots; £80,000 and above opens 10 marla and 1 kanal possession plots in prime phases. Check today's sheet rather than relying on these bands — the market moves.
A note on UK tax
Owning property in Pakistan can have UK tax consequences: rental income is generally reportable to HMRC, and a future sale may fall within capital gains rules depending on your circumstances. Pakistan and the UK also have a double taxation agreement that usually prevents paying twice on the same income. None of this should put you off — hundreds of thousands of British Pakistanis own property in Pakistan — but take advice from a UK accountant familiar with overseas assets. We are a property desk, not tax advisers.
